I was stationed with the 6981st from 1961 to 1964. Did a lot of bowling at the anchor bowl and the lanes going out to the international airport. My roomie was George Valentine from Tampa, Fla.also knew a guy named John Burrell from Georgia..Lots of good memories and one horrific one:the 1964 earthquake!!!Now living in florida .All of us went to IU then on to Goodfellow Afb.

Jerry Van Dyken, good to hear back. Guys I remember from the barracks. Will Ellis, whom I am still in touch with, Mike Holwanger, George Messer, Mike Paraska, Pat De Luca, Bob Brickl… also remember Eli Weiss from C flight & msgt archie ouzts. I was in San Antonio in the fall, many basic grads on town leave, I could not have possibly looked that young!

John Horvath, I remember you, too. I believe we worked together on A console. I spoke with Mike Orndorff a few months ago. He was my room mate and then my best man when I got married.

Was assigned from 1973-77. Best assignment we ever had. Some of the people I remember: Bill Alley,
Jim Back, Jim Nix, Steve Nicholson,Larry Kelley, Bill Copeland, Bob Alberti, Doug Scott,
Merlin Anderson and many others.
Fishing on Willow Creek and down on the Kenai was fun.

Arrived at the 6981st either in June or July of 1959. Roommates were Jay Hayter and Clay Barbee. Cannot remember which flt. we were on but I do remember we were in the third room in from the end of the barracks on the ground floor. Somewhere along the way I came into possession of an aerial photo of the entire base and can actually see the window of my old room. Lots of great memories. Left there in ’61 assigned to Luke AFB in the base command post. Discharged in Oct. 62. Have a lot of good memories of Alaska, and a few bad ones. CMS Louis D. Yoemans Jr. comes under the latter heading. Anybody remember him? He and I butted heads from the moment we saw each other. He was the most unpleasant individual I ran across during my entire enlistment. Am retired now from Praxair Corp. and living the good life in St. George, Ut. Lots of fishing, golfing and atv’ing among other things. Like most of you, I can’t get the code out of my head. I still occassionaly find myself doing the dit, dah, spelling of words that I see. The 6981st was a great experience, one I’ll never forget.

Served at 6981st Jan 1960 to Jan 1962. Was on “D” flight. Great basketball team! This flight had several outstanding athletes. As I recall Master Sqt Yeoman in charge, Sgt’s Hogg, Clary, Cooper, Lane, Jackson, and Anderson served under him. I was a diddy-bop.

Some of the guys I remember on Charlie flight between 1970 and 1972 were Ross Blue, Lou Sartori, Jim Blitch, Sgt Douglas, Don Border, Mike Holwagner, Jim Towne, Sgt Miller,
I will try to remember more but memory fails me now
