Hi, I was at Keesler 58-59 Morse Inercept, hung out with Jim Walden from Fort Worth,TX. Went to Trabzon, Turkey {Tuslog Det 3-1) 59-60. Worked with SSgt. J.A.P, called "jap"[I forgot his name], There was also an airman nick-named "Willie Choo-choo" because all he wanted to do was haul trailers went he got back home. He drove the 6x6 from town to the site at Bostepe. Stayed in town hotel until new facilities opened on Bostepe, worked as Maitre'd in new Club Kismet. Was in Iraklion, Crete 60-Jan 62 and was discharged. Enjoyed both stations anc countries meeting people and learnig their culture. From the comments I have read on this site, I have learned that Trabzon was closed and so was Iraklion. If some one remembers me I would like to hear from you

I read with interest this site and I direct this to Mike Bryant. Perhaps you knew my husband Vic Via. He also was at Keesler after Lackland in '58-59. Then to Goodfellow, then Chickksands. We lived in Bedford from '60 to late '61, then back to Goodfellow. He too loved the AF and I loved being an AF wife. He passed away in 2005 at 67 and I know he would love reading messages from fellow AF Buddies. Thank all of you for your service. Barbara Via

Went thru radio operator school and then radio intercept operator school at Keesler in 1953. Went to Japan to Johnson AFB to the 6920th Security Group. We later moved to Shiroi Air Base Japan in a new security compound. I really enjoyed the work. Got really good at copying code of all speeds. After leaving Shiroi Japan in 1954 went to Kelly AFB Texas for a short time then re-enlisted and went to the 6925th Radio Group Mobile , Clark AFB, Phillippines form 1954 through 1955. From there back to Shiroi AFB Japan. That was the extent of my radio interept career. Later retrained into Air Traffic Control Radar Maint. for the remainder of my Air Force Career. Retired from the AF in October 1972.

I graduated from Intercept Radio School at Keesler in early 1958 and was deployed to Chicksands AFB just outside Bedford, England. Returned to US in 1961 upon discharge. Enjoyed my time in the USAF with a great group of code guys at Chicksands. Rank was frozen at the time so family needs forced me to leave upon my 4 year requirement. I always regretted not remaining in the USAF although my current work in Emergency Management is rewarding as well.

Small world. I was at the 6931 ESS as commander July 76 - July 78 and have a very clear image of a young airman Jim Houle who impressed everyone there. I am delighted to see that he did so well. As with all of the USAFSS and ESC units to which I was assigned, the airmen and NCOs were always several cuts above and represented the very best of the Air Force. To say that they were professional is an under-statement. I regret that so many like SMS John Resetar died so young.
