Hello Dick Dukes! I was also in the 6948th from 1964-67, as a crypto maint tech, along with Ken Davis and Bill Hitchcock (now deceased according to Gary Ellmore). Ken and I are still in Texas, Gary is in Buffalo,NY. It would be great to have a reunion sometime. Our NCOIC was TSgt Harden. There were also Sgt Hart and Sgt Hood. Sgt Green and Ellmore were TTY repair techs. Also would like to hear from others there during that time..

I graduated from DLIWC (Thai) in 1969 and transferred to the 6948th at Goodfellow from July 69 to July 70. Went to Offutt and the 6949th after that.

I was in the 6948th(M) soon after it moved from San Angelo to Kelly AFB (Medina) from 1975-76. It was a great assignment for a single guy who didn’t mind traveling or staying in tents.
It was my first assignment, so it would be a couple of years before I found out what the rest of the ‘typical’ Air Force did. But I did like blue bippy day and blousing my boots because everyone on base knew you were from the 48th.
Worked in Materiel Control (supply section) and we were still digging out stuff that had come back from Vietnam. Worked with Rodney Hansen, John (JB) Brown, Don McCaughn, and Bob Abshire. They took me under their collective wings and made sure I learned how to play dominoes and throw darts.

Hi everyone, I was at the 69048th at Goodfellow from Aug 1966 then to Offutt in 1968. Soon as I got to the 48th in 1966 then sent me to altitude chamber and put me on flight status and I would go to the 6949th and fly out to Hawaii for duty. Did this and also went to Brooks for special Transec mission and also to the NCO Academy at Goodfellow while in San Angelo. I liked the area but was gone most of the time and it was hard on Sally and the boys. When in USAFSS you do what you do and make the best of it for sure. Had real good assignments at Sembach, Crete and at Rhine Main with the 6916th.

I enjoyed the people I worked with.

patches, was wondering where I

Hi, I was with 6940 Tech Tng Gp in1968. My first assignment and only lasted 1 year then off to Vietnam for more fun.

My dad was at Goodfellow AFB from 1966-72 He was an instructor there . Before that he was at Trabzon Turkey , Then Darmstadt Germany .In 1972 we moved to Misawa AFB Japan where dad worked on security hill . He then was stationed at Kelly AFB San Antonio but worked on Medina AFB . He was in his favorite unit then the 6948th . Though he detested blue bippy day . We then moved to Anderson AFB Guam where I believe he worked as a detachment assigned to the 3rd Air Division . If anyone remembers him please post back here or send me an email . was in the 6948th in 1966-67 at Goodfellow, then went to Pleiku , Viet-Nam.
went to the 48th after they shut down the 6940th.

I was a 6948th Radio Communications Analyst during at Lackland in 1982-83. The Fighting 48th was an exciting and rewarding unit to work in. I can attest that the lingering spirit of the founders of the 48th provided inspiration to our service and our protection of the units legacy.

Training at Goodfellow AFB in 1979-80 did not provide much in the way of entertainment – not San Angelo’s strong suit – but San Vito Italy and the many tdy’s from the 48th to Alaska, Florida, Riyadh and more were rich reward for our efforts.
