I too, spent many nights at Ellicos, drinking wine and having plenty of fun. I was saddened when they close Iraklion. Probably two of the best years of my glorious Air Force Career.

Magical place! I was with AFRTS from 1974 to 1976, returned with the Med Clinic in 1983-85. Spent many an hour (& paycheck) at Ellicos Disco (remember Zach?) in Chersonnissous as a bachelor, met my wife on the beach in 1975 and married her in the base chapel in 1976. We’ve been back several times over the years, and sadly, time & politics have not treated the area too well. Worked with fellow DJs Jack Lott & Bob Garcia.

stationed on crete from aug 15 1968 till Dec 15 1969, comm center..grew up there, lived in hersonnisis, not been back but want to go back, its in my blood..

Crete was defintely one of the finest assignment I had during my Air Force career. Sadly I have not been able to locate anyone who was there with me. Work in C.E. for Lt Col Adams from Jul 78 – Jul 80. Clarence Pughsley, Abdul the cop, George Anthenos, Yvonne Bedford, Michael Ellis, Earnie Lee, were a few folks during my tenure. If anyone know of these people please let me know.

I was stationed in Crete with Det 3, 2140 Comm SQ. Our commanders were Captain Patrick Ryan and after him was Captain Luther Shields one of the poorest excuses for an Air Force officer I ever met in my 20 year career in the USAF!

I had a lingering feeling back then… that I would remember my experience on ‘the Rock’ the rest of my life. It turned out to be true. I even tried writing a book about it, but gave up in frustration. (It would have been a great movie.) A number of great people, two of whom I still write.
Those were different times, and I’ll bet many of us wish we could return to them.

I was a 202 assigned to Dog flight 1975-1977. I saw Richard Munson’s post above, you were an X2 right? I was thinking of some of some the people we were stationed with, Diane Jorgensen, Bob Lowrey, Don Matta, Jim Houle, Randy Endsley and Ken Colchin.
